Building Work for Women – work placement project
Building Work for Women (BWW) ran between April 2006 and March 2009 and supported 150 women to find work placements. It was granted funded by the London Development Agency.
The project worked with trainee and unemployed tradeswomen in London who had completed a level 2 qualification and wanted to gain the vital work experience needed to find permanent work within the construction industry.
The tradeswomen who took part in the project received training in many areas to increase their chances of gaining full time employment such as: CV production, interview and application techniques, driving lessons, and other training such as personal safety, health and safety training and First Aid.
The project also paid for child care and travel expenses to enable the women to attend the training and apply for work placements.
WAMT worked with a number of construction employers who participated in the project. The women gained thirteen week work placements after succeeding in the interview process directly with the employers.
WAMT are looking for partners to keep the Building Work for Women programme running. If your organisation can provide work placements, training or sponsorship, please contact Niki Luscombe on chiefexec@wamt.org
