Membership

Membership information

Added: 7 October 2007. Last updated: 23 June 2009.

Full membership is open to women and girls working, training or wishing to work in traditionally male dominated manual trades. We have two rates of membership £30 for women who are in work or are self employed and £7 for women who are unemployed, unwaged or studying full time. You may be required to provide proof of your concessionary status.

Associate membership is open to individuals including men and women who support WAMT’s aims but are not working, wishing to work or train in the manual trades and organisational and corporate members which include WAMT’s partners, training and education providers, construction companies, employers, housing associations and women’s organisations. In addition to the main contact, further named users may be added to the account to some services at a reduced fee.

Women and Manual Trades full membership includes the following benefits:

  • A new interactive website with a members’ area including a forum for lively exchanges between tradeswomen is being developed – you can be one of the first to participate
  • WAMT newsletter with news about WAMT, training opportunities and the building industry
  • Regular information updates about news, opportunities to attend courses and conferences, find jobs and placements and access business support and advice
  • WAMT organises a Job Fair where tradeswomen can meet employers and training providers to find out what they have to offer and also gain knowledge about self-employment and tax matters from HM Revenue and Customs
  • Tradeswomen’s Networking Events take place each month with a range of activities such as site or museum visits, film shows, presentations or talks by tradeswomen. Regional networking events will be coming to your area – we look forward to seeing you soon
  • You can advertise in the new on-line tradeswomen’s directory or through the newsletter and e-updates
  • Staff in the WAMT office may be able to provide you with some business advice, help with CV writing or sign-posting to support agencies and other sources of information
  • The Annual General Meeting is an opportunity to have your say and make use of your vote

Associate (individual and organisational) members do not have access to the online forums, and do not have a vote at the AGM. They do, however, receive invitations to our Job Fairs and Tradeswomen’s Networking Events. Organisational members are also entitled to place two small adverts, per year, in the bi-monthly Newsletter.
